Although I was born in Lima, Peru I did not visit Machu
Picchu until I was in my mid 20’s. In this post I will answer the most asked questions
about Machu Picchu from my friends. Before I start answering questions, let me
tell you some history behind these beautiful ruins. Machu Picchu is in the
northern side of Cusco, Peru. Machu Picchu stands for “old peak” which is in
the native Quechua language and it sits around 8000 ft. above sea level. It was known as a royal estate for Inca leaders
until it fell during the Spanish conquest. In 1991, American Archeologist Hiram
Bingham, was credited for spreading the word about this hidden city to the
world.
